Atopic eczema can make a baby’s skin dry, inflamed and itchy. It often affects the cheeks as well as other areas. Parents are not to blame. Daily care aims to limit dryness and scratching while following the baby’s treatment plan.
A manageable washing routine
Use lukewarm water and keep baths brief. A mild fragrance free cleanser is needed only where cleaning is necessary. Pat the skin gently rather than rubbing. Apply an age appropriate emollient recommended by a healthcare professional. This is a cream or ointment that helps retain moisture. Continue the routine when the skin looks calmer too.
Choose soft, breathable clothing. Avoid overheating, scratchy wool and scented products that irritate the skin. Keep nails short. Record when a flare starts and which products touched the skin. Change one thing at a time so it is easier to identify a possible irritant.
When to seek advice
Contact the baby’s clinician if itching disturbs sleep, the routine is not helping or the diagnosis is uncertain. Painful or hot skin, discharge, blisters, fever or a sudden worsening need prompt assessment for possible infection. Use prescribed medicines according to the individual instructions.
Check before adding a product
Natural does not establish suitability for an infant. Fresh aloe, essential oils, propolis and fragranced soaps may irritate sensitive skin. We do not recommend a Forever product as treatment for infant eczema. Do not remove foods from the baby’s or breastfeeding parent’s diet without professional advice.

Common questions
Does aloe gel treat a baby’s eczema?
There is insufficient support for that recommendation. Discuss the complete ingredients and age suitability with the baby’s clinician.
Should prescribed cream be stopped?
Follow the prescribed plan and contact the clinician if it is not helping or causes problems.
Before first use
Choose products for your dietary routine and care needs. Follow a healthcare professional’s advice for diagnosis and treatment of symptoms. Check suitability first during pregnancy and for use by children.
